Project portfolio management > Entreprise PMO

Strategic Project Management Office - EPMO

More and more organizations shift their focus from operational project management toward strategic project management. This goes beyond the implementation of a project portfolio management concept. Strategic/corporate project management combines all project management components in an organization, including projects, portfolios, programs, project offices, governance committees, etc. Likewise, it involves all actors in project management: project managers, PMO and EPMO managers, stakeholders, etc. Strategic/corporate project management is based on a top-down governance structure whose centerpiece is the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO).

Strategic Project Management is an essential practice for the effective implementation of an organizational business strategy

Strategic Project Management-Organizational Structure

EPMO-Our approach

We have developed a flexible strategic project management framework that can easily be adapted to your needs and your project management maturity. This framework encompasses the processes, roles and responsibilities of each actor in the process, tools and templates, as well as a project governance structure (governance committees).

The model presented in the figure is only one model that we propose. We can propose the model of Enterprise Project Management Office that best suits your needs and your reality.

The Title is not important

An EPMO can be structured in different ways. It depends on your project management maturity and your business strategy. What title this structure will have is not very important. It can be called corporate PMO, Strategic PMO, Project Prioritization Committee, Program Management, Portfolio Management Office, etc.

Nevertheless, it is very important that this structure is adapted to the organizational culture and to the importance that your organization attaches to project management. This way you will be able to ensure that the proposed corporate portfolio is aligned with the organizational strategy and that it serves as a link between organizational strategy and project execution.
